Welcome to “Pages & Panels: The Best of Marvel Comics.” As the name suggests this column will feature a look at the best pages and panels of the week, as chosen by The Marvel Report staff. The selections, just like Marvel Comics as a whole, will run the gamut from heartfelt, to funny, and everything between. Not only will the biggest, and most important moments of the week be highlighted, but quieter moments as well.

To make matters even more interesting you the readers will have a say in what gets crowned as Panel of The Week. Make sure to vote for your favorite in the poll.

The winner of last week’s poll, and the final entry into our first “Panel Of The Month” contest, was “Wolverine’s Fridge” from All New Wolverine #2 by Tom Taylor, and David Lopez.

Now moving on to this week’s selections. Be advised, the very nature of this column could be considered one big spoiler. If you haven’t read through this week’s comics, and don’t want to be spoiled this is your warning.

ALL NEW ALL DIFFERENT AVENGERS #2

Why: Thor joins the All New All Different Avengers! In a beautiful splash page. – Kathryn

ALL NEW X-MEN #1
Written by Dennis Hopeless
Art by Mark Bagley

image

Why: Young Hank McCoy may not technically be a Doctor, but neither is THE DOCTOR. Hank earns his honorary doctorate because his trailer appears to be bigger on the inside.- John

image

Why: I’ve loved BAMFs since they first appeared in Wolverine & The X-Men, and I was glad to see at least one of them make it to the new title. Also, there’s something great/adorable about Hank naming this one Pickles. – John

Why: Young Scott proving that he is Cyclops, but also proving to this Cyclops cult that he doesn’t want to be compared to his older self. – Kathryn

DAREDEVIL #1
Written by Charles Soule
Art by Ron Garney

image

Why: Soule and Garney have brought the darkness back to Daredevil, and the first issue was better than I ever expected it to be. It helps when Ron Garney’s art might just be the best of his career. – John

Why: I love the art of the new Daredevil. Seeing the almost black and while panels with touches of red reminded me a lot of the series where Matt says what he sees is a “world on fire.” It fits the darkness of the story and also really stands out from a lot of the other bright, colorful comics out there. – Brittany

EXTRAORDINARY X-MEN #3
Written by Jeff Lemire
Art by Humberto Ramos

image image

Why: Jeff Lemire has spent three issues putting fresh twists on classic X-Men situations. This panel is a perfect example of this, as the Jean/Logan relationship was one of the cornerstones of the team for years. The fresh twist just happens to be that this is a Logan from the future, and a Jean from the past meeting in the present. – John

Why: Both Jean and Logan are fighting destiny. This was a great scene between these two. – Kathryn

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #4
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art by David Marquez

image

Why: Iron Max is a testament to the power of Marvel. I can’t praise Marvel, and the creative team enough for what they did for a young kid that used Iron Man to get through a toug situation. – John

Why: This was a such a great scene, and the scene became even better when I learned this was based on a real kid. – Kathryn

image

Why: I LOVE all the different things the Iron Man armor has been able to do over the last few months. I didn’t think anything could top the armor doubling as a car over in All New All Different Avengers, but this comes really close. Tony needs to take on a group of ninjas on the beach? Too bad for the ninjas that he has Samurai Mode for that! – John

image

Why: Brian Michael Bendis and Dave Marquez make a cameo in their book! – Kathryn

image

Why: It was great to see Tony surprise the children with his many Iron Man suits. – Kathryn

image

Why: It’s great to see Mary Jane in the spotlight again. I am really looking forward to seeing what Bendis does with the character in his Iron Man run. – Kathryn

NOVA #2
Written by Sean Ryan
Art by Cory Smith

image

Why: We need more of Sam’s sister in this comic! – Kathryn

SPIDEY #1
Written by Robbie Thompson
Art by: Nick Bradshaw

image

Why: This was a fun scene talking about the namesake of the title. It makes me excited to see more high school Spidey. – Kathryn

image

Why: This was a great entrance from Gwen! Really happy to see her as a supporting character in Spidey. – Kathryn

image

Why: Play it cool Spidey, play it cool. – Kathryn

STAR WARS #13
Written by Jason Aaron
Art by Mike Deodato

image

Why: Father and Daughter face to face. This is going to be an interesting interaction. – Kathryn

THE TOTALLY AWESOME HULK #1
Written by Greg Pak
Art by Frank Cho

image

Why: Greg Pak is back at Marvel writing Amadeus Cho, and The Hulk. All is right in the world. Although Amadeus, the 8th smartest person in the Marvel Universe, just happens to BE THE HULK. A teenage Hulk? Well, no wonder he needs to eat a lot.- John

image

Why: This panel sums up just how much fun this issue was. Amadeus actually enjoys being The Hulk, and that leads to moments like this. – John

image

Why: Frank Cho may be best known for drawing sexy women. Now he can add sexy Hulk to that list. This also illustrates that universal moment where you try to flirt, and things get embarrassing. – John

image

Why: HULK TEAM UP!! Oh, and then Miles is there to make it perfect. – John

THE VISION #2
Written by Tom King
Art by Gabriel Hernandez Walta

image
Why: This title is the single biggest surprise of All New All Different Marvel. It is among the very best work of both Tom King, and Gabriel Hernandez Walta’s career. This page really shows the both the dichotomy of the Synth/human experience, and the intense tone set early on in the series. – John
