It feels like it has been an eternity, mostly because it has, when it comes to finding out who will be playing Daniel “Danny” Rand a.k.a. the famous Iron Fist in the upcoming Marvel Netflix series. But it looks like the search and wait is finally over. Today Entertainment Weekly confirmed that Game of Thrones’ actor Finn Jones has been taped to bring Iron Fist to life in Marvel’s Iron Fist which is set to begin production very soon.
It started earlier today when The Hashtag Show had Jones rumored for the role and it looks like Entertainment Weekly was able to confirm their scoop. Iron Fist will have Scott Buck as show-runner and executive producer which was announced back in December from Heroic Hollywood and Comicbook.com
Jeph Loeb, president of Marvel TV, said this about Buck leading the show as the show-runner in December in a statement from Marvel:
“Scott came in with a take on Iron Fist that quite simply knocked us off our feet. “We always look for the most creative minds in the field to help us bring our heroes to life, and with Scott we’ve found someone that can deliver yet another great series in the ongoing story of The Defenders.”
Buck also said this about bringing Iron Fist to life:
“I’ve always been drawn to writing complex, intriguing characters, and that’s what most excites me about the opportunity to bring Danny Rand and “Iron Fist” to life with Marvel on Netflix,”
More details will hopefully come out soon about Jones’ casting as well as who will be joining him in the series. It has been reported that Carrie Anne Moss who portrayed Jeri Hogarth on Marvel’s Jessica Jones, is expected to reprise the role in this series as her character in the comic books has a connection with Iron Fist.
With Jones now cast as Iron Fist, this completes the circle for The Defenders which he will be joining too with Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter as Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, respectively.
UPDATE: 17/03/16: Marvel has now come out with the casting as, which was revealed a few weeks ago, with a teaser image.
Executive Producer and showrunner, Scott Buck, said this in a statement:
“Danny Rand is a very complicated character. He’s a billionaire New York Buddhist monk martial arts superhero who’s still trying to figure out what exactly that all means. Finn is able to play all these levels in such an honest, revelatory way that as soon as I saw him I knew he was our Danny.”
Executive Producer/Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb also gave a statement about Jones’ casting:
“Finn wonderfully blends confidence with vulnerability, making him the perfect choice as he struggles to find his place in the world. Now that we’ve found our Danny Rand, we’ve completed our principal cast for the upcoming Defenders on Netflix and we are thrilled to continue to show audiences unexplored corners of the Marvel Universe.”
