Dreams came true and panels from our favorite childhood comics came to life when Captain America: Civil War premiered in theaters earlier this year, forcing fans to choose sides in an ideological war between the Earth’s Mightiest Heroes that culminated in a wonderfully well done airport scene.
Team Iron Man included Tony Stark himself, Black Widow, Vision, War Machine, Black Panther, and Spider-Man. Iron Man’s team included some heavy hitters, some comic relief, some experienced Avengers, and some newcomers. Team Captain America included Steve Rogers, the Winter Soldier, Wanda Maximoff, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, and Falcon. Like team Iron Man, team Cap also included a nice variety of heroes with varied power sets that made for an interesting team dynamic.
The Russo brothers must have been under a lot of pressure in choreographing, planning, shooting, and writing such a massive fight sequence between the MCU’s most prominent heroes. Arguably, the best part of the famous sirport scene is that it feels so small. Sure, it’s large and filled with lots of laughs and fan-service moments (like Ant-Man riding Hawkeye’s arrow), but the success of the scene lies in the fact that it’s coherent and that every punch, kick, and web-sling is earned.
The Russos – for the most part – kept the massive scene grounded in both funny scenes and great character moments. And, now, when Captain America: Civil War comes out on Blu-Ray this week, you can fast-forward and rewind your way through exploding water trucks and Star Wars references to your heart’s desire.
Captain America: Civil War is available to own now on Digital HD and will be available to own on Blu-Ray on Tuesday, September 13.
