Since announcing that Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph would be starring in Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, the straight-to-series Freeform drama has continued adding to its cast.  The new faces come with backstories that are clearly meant to fill out the lives of the two leads, and deepen the audience’s understanding of the world surrounding Cloak & Dagger. As a reminder, this is how Marvel describes what the comic-based show is about:

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger is a coming-of-age series based on the beloved comic characters. Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) come from starkly different backgrounds, each growing up with a secret they never dared share with another soul.

Gloria Reuben & Miles Mussenden as Tyrone’s parents

Both families will play a part in the proceedings, as evidenced by the latest cast list. Andrea Roth (Blue Bloods) will play Melissa Bowen, an optimist who loves her daughter Tandy fiercely amidst their chaotic new circumstances. Gloria Reuben (Mr. Robot) portrays Adina Johnson, Tyrone’s mother who is so invested in his future that she often ignores him in the present. Miles Mussenden (Queen Sugar), meanwhile, plays the working-class father who does what it takes to keep his family safe.

The talented cast doesn’t stop there, though. Carl Lundstedt (Conviction) portrays Tandy’s boyfriend, Liam, who moonlights as her partner-in-crime but has dreams of his own. James Saito (Life of Pi) plays Tyrone’s mentor, Dr. Bernard Sanjo, who has been part of his life for a long time and in a most unusual way. Finally, J.D. Evermore (The Walking Dead) rounds out the show as the enigmatic Detective Connors.

Joe Pokaski will serve as showrunner of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, with Joseph Loeb and Jim Chory as additional executive producers. Gina Prince-Blythewood, who directed the classic Love and Basketball, has been tapped to direct the first episode.

    1. I believe it’s going to be on Freeform – the channel that used to be ABC Family. They’ve got Shadowhunters, Pretty Little Liars, and The Fosters.
