Ghost Rider Cancelled After 6 Issues

Ever since May’s solicitations came out with no Ghost Rider #7 in sight, there have been rumors that the series was being cancelled. Now Marvel Comics has solidified said rumors by informing retailers that Ghost Rider #6 will not be re-solicited. While Marvel has not commented on these developments, according to Newsarama, the evidence seems to speak for itself.

Other titles missing from the May solicitations include: Black Panther: World of Wakanda, Silver Surfer, Silk, Great Lakes Avengers, Thunderbolts, Gamora, and Deadpool & The Mercs for Money. Thanks to a tweet from writer Jim Zub, we know Thunderbolts is off for two months due to the Secret Empire event. But the rest are still up in the air until further clarification is made.

Ghost Rider launched its latest comic book run in November of 2016, in order to coordinate with Robbie Reyes’ appearance on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season four. As Felipe Smith was the original creator of this iteration of Ghost Rider, the series was delayed a few months to make sure she was able to write it. It’s a shame to see another beloved character’s series be cancelled so soon, but hopefully there’s a chance for a continuation somewhere down the line.

The one thing I wanted out of Ghost Rider was more of Robbie’s personal journey, and a little less of the guest stars – Totally Awesome Hulk, X-23 and Silk made up a large portion of the story. If the series returns, then it would be great to see more of him helping Gabe and dealing with his demons. If you enjoyed the team-ups in the current Ghost Rider run, however, then you should definitely check out Gwenpool #15. Ghost Rider, or at least his car, will guest star in the issue.

Since the news isn’t 100% confirmed yet, we will be sure to update you and this article with further news or comments from creator Felipe Smith or Marvel personnel.
