Secret Invasion

After a year severely lacking in Marvel properties, Disney+ has announced its future slate of Marvel movies and television, sharing that there are 10 new Marvel shows in development for the company. CEO Kevin Feige appeared at the Disney Investor Day to share five new titles.

Two of the biggest standouts were Secret Invasion and Iron Heart. With the introduction of Captain Marvel and the Skrulls, fans assumed that a Secret Invasion storyline would be possible. Captain Marvel shifted the dynamic to the Kree being warmongering soldiers and the Skrulls being refugees run off their planet by the Kree war machine.

Disney’s Investor Day teased the “Secret Invasion” storyline and that Captain Marvel stars Sam Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn would be returning to reprise their roles from the film. Feige hinted at a rogue group of Skrulls invading earth but with the Kree taking on a more human appearance there’s always a chance they could be playing those who are “invading earth.”

Marvel’s next project (and a very welcome surprise) was Ironheart, focusing on comics newcomer Riri Williams. In the comics, Riri Williams is a genius inventor, inspired by Tony Stark to build a suit of armor in the basement of her college dorm. Taken under Stark’s mentorship, she becomes a hero in her own right and teams up with characters like Ms. Marvel, Miles Morales, and more.

Dominique Thorne will play Riri, and Feige teased that continuing Marvel’s tradition of “It’s all connected, ” Riri will play a role in Secret Invasion. It’s safe to say as the project gets closer to completion and fans learn more about it that there will be more surprises in store as Riri makes her live-action debut.

Other shows announced include

Armor Wars, a show focused on James “Rhodey” Rhodes aka War Machine.

I am Groot, a series of shorts featuring Baby Groot.

And The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, written and directed by James Gunn is back.

Are you excited for these characters? What do you hope to see in the shows? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below and keep your eyes peeled for more Marvel coverage.
