PAGES & PANELS: The Best Of Marvel Comics 11/18/15

Author: 2 Comments Share:

Welcome to “Pages & Panels: The Best of Marvel Comics.” As the name suggests this column will feature a look at the best pages and panels of the week, as chosen by The Marvel Report staff. The selections, just like Marvel Comics as a whole, will run the gamut from heartfelt, to funny, and everything between. Not only will the biggest, and most important moments of the week be highlighted, but quieter moments as well.

To make matters even more interesting you the readers will have a say in what gets crowned as Panel of The Week. Make sure to vote for your favorite in the poll.

The winner of last week’s poll with exactly half of the vote was “Wolverine Opens Up To Angel” from All New Wolverine #1 by Tom Taylor, and David Lopez.

Now moving on to this week’s selections. Be advised, the very nature of this column could be considered one big spoiler. If you haven’t read through this week’s comics, and don’t want to be spoiled this is your warning.

Why: This issue of Ant-Man played a lot with superhero cliches, but my favorite was this one. Don’t you miss when a villain told his whole plan to the hero before he was defeated? – Kathryn

Why: Bobby speaks the truth. I think my love of time travel stories comes from growing up a huge fan of the X-Men. This panel also serves as a great example of how Extraordinary X-Men feels like a great mix of something familiar yet fresh at the same time. – John

Why: It was really cool to see a double page spread of the All New All Different Avengers team. We haven’t even seen that in the All New All Different Avengers title. And Ms Marvel’s face was priceless! – Kathryn

Why: Kamala has been so busy with her Ms Marvel life that she hasn’t realized how much her high school life has changed. Bruno has a new girlfriend and Kamala is taking this hard. I also really like how Zoe is now part of Kamala’s friend circle. It’s great to see that the events of Secret Wars has really changed her out look on life. – Kathryn

Why: Misty Knight has been awesome for a long time, but it’s great to see Nick Spencer and Daniel Acuña put her on equal footing with the title character. This is also a pretty great joke. – John

Why: This full page shot of Jessica’s Maternity Leave party is great for several reasons. The obvious reason is the layout, and how Jess/Peter, and Tony/Carol move from back to front. It’s really clever, and well done. Then you have all the characters in the background. I spent a few minutes checking out who was interacting with who. I just wish I knew what Howard was saying to Kamala that was so funny. – John

Why: Seeing Han Solo and especially Princess Leia with lightsabers was just amazing! And Leia saying “And let the force be with us” makes me even more excited to see if Leia has been training with the force in Star Wars Force Awakens. – Kathryn

Why: In this panel Jane reveals that she is the Mighty Thor. Such a great contrast as we see Jane at her weakest. – Kathryn

Why: I was reading this comic in a coffee shop and actually yelled “YES!” out loud when I got to this page. It was such a fulfilling and happy moment to finally see Jane as Thor looking powerful and strong and badass and beautiful. – Brittany

Why: I love that a world exists where Tony Stark/Iron Man has a crush on Lady Thor. I totally ship it. – Brittany

  1. This was a tough one this week I really enjoyed The X-Men one how the panel pokes fun at the whole Time Travel Thing. However the moment with the Light sabers was priceless and never thought I would ever see something like that.

    1. I love when it’s hard to choose, as it means it was a great week of comics. From a completely unbiased ? perspective I think this was the best week yet. There were great pages/panels that didn’t make the cut. It just goes to show that last week had a lot of great work from great creators. I’m excited to see how the vote shakes out.
