Fans were treated to a special sneak peak of Fox’s new show The Gifted during a panel with the cast in Ballroom 20 at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday. The Marvel Report was there and can share without spoilers the footage showed some promising acting.

The panel also ended with a new extended trailer that has been posted online for the public. In the trailer we see the Strucker children coming into their mutant powers and the family teaming up with the underground mutant resistance.

In addition to the footage and trailer, cast members were on hand to answer questions about the upcoming show. Joining for the panel were  writer and producer Matt  Nix and stars Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Sean Teale, Jamie Chung, Coby Bell, Emma Dumont, Blair Redford, Natalie Alyn Lind, and Percy Hynes White.

Fans wondering if any of there other favorite mutants from film and TV might show up, but Nix confirmed that The Gifted will exist in its own universe. This means no crossovers with the films or Legion.  However, Bryan Singer of the X-Men films has been heavily involved in the show and directed the pilot.

One benefit of having the show it allows them to explore the mutants’ exploration of their powers over a period of time, said Nix.

The Sentinels, created in the comics as robots used to hunt mutants, will also appear on the show in an unrevealed form.

In addition to the panel, The Gifted also had an off-site event at Comic-Con that allowed fans to test themselves for the mutant gene. Read The Marvel Report’s write up on the event here.
