Marvel Television has exploded in the last five years, from the various shows on ABC, the big Defenders line-up at Netflix and it’s not stopping anytime soon, with upcoming projects at places like Hulu and Freeform this coming TV season. It appears that another Marvel show is in the works, this time for ABC that may or may not have a Jessica Jones vibe to it.

Karim Zreik, who is the Senior VP of Original Programming for Marvel TV, spoke with The Hollywood Reporter at the Edinburgh TV Festival where he teased the future of the ever-growing division. While he wouldn’t hint at what female character it is, Zreik hinted that it will feel similar to the acclaimed comic book drama from Melissa Rosenberg.

“It’s Jessica Jones-esque. We want to target different audiences.”

ABC currently has Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which will be back for a fifth season later this year, with The Inhumans set to premiere in just a couple of weeks on the Disney owned network. Hulu is bringing the Runaways to life on November 21 from The O.C. and Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

While the original Marvel-Netflix shows are currently in production/starting production this fall, Netflix has The Punisher coming up, which is set to arrive sometime this fall with Jon Bernthal reprising the role of Frank Castle. Freeform also has two new shows that will debut next year, with the upcoming teen drama Cloak & Dagger as well as the division’s first comic book comedy series New Warriors.

It remains to be seen if this mystery project is possibly the secret series that John Ridley has been working on for ABC for the last few years. All that is known about Ridley’s project is that it would be “reinventing an existing Marvel superhero character or property” for the network. Only time will tell whether this Jessica Jones-esque project is or isn’t the same as Ridley’s mystery show.

What female superhero do you think it is that ABC is developing a show for? Sound off in the comments below.
