The Marvel Cinematic Universe already has two Sherlock Holmes and one Watson, so how about another Watson. Variety broke the news that Jude Law is in negotiations to join Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson, the male lead role that is none other than Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell!
According to Variety, Law’s role would possibly be a mentor role for Larson’s Carol who is trying to figure out her new abilities. Should Law sign on, he would be the second new star to join the upcoming Marvel picture after Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story).
But in today’s report, Mendelsohn has joined the picture after all. While it remains to seen; it is rumored that he’ll be playing the main antagonist who is potentially the leader of the leader of the Skrulls. Should he sign on, this won’t be the only big sci-fi/fantasy related film that Law will soon appear in.
He is set to play young Albus Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald that hits theaters next year. With production set to start next year, more details will most likely be revealed sooner rather than later.
Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, Samuel L. Jackson as S.H.I.E.L.D. Director Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn opens in theaters March 8, 2019.
